The Holy Trinity

Father

I learned The Humanics philosophy when I attended Springfield College. It’s motto is Spirit, Mind, and Body, and it came naturally to Mom and Pop. They were the foundational rocks of our family; strong and principled in Integrity.

At Pop’s funeral, I gave my sister the softball my father cherished from a hard won victory for a championship, signed by all the players on the team after he caught the last out. I gave Dave his five finger glove, an old scrap of leather barely held together by rawhide, with very little padding. I kept his bat, a 33” beauty, probably made out of hickory or ash.

1 Corinthians 13:13

But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Son

Carrying on with the symbolism of the Holy Trinity, I passed on one of my Mom’s many Bibles to Dave; to Cindy, and one for myself. Like Pop’s softball equipment, I won’t apologize that they are worn out from use.

Holy Ghost

Ruth Ellen asked me what I was going to do with Mom’s favorite Bible. I hadn’t thought about it. She suggested, “ I think your Mom would be happy to see Lizzie get it and carry on her work.”

That was a no-brainer, wish I had thought of that.

Gifts

God gave us the gift of life; it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well. – Voltaire
