The Tapestry

“What Ye Sow, So Shall Ye Reap”

This theme was constantly instilled in us by Mom’s beautiful tapestry that hung in our home over the Dining Room table. It is one of her prized possessions from the Swedish heritage she embraced. When we were much younger, she attached this phrase to this work of Art. In her last year she suggested it meant something else like “Working in the Fields”. I think I am going to remember it as her original idea when her mind was clearer. She asked Dennis to have this but keep it in the family.

Weaving

We don’t accomplish anything in this world alone… and whatever happens is the result of the whole tapestry of one’s life and all the weavings of individual threads from one to another that creates something. – Sandra Day O’Connor

Acts

This summer I went to a baseball game and watched George play. He was in a slump. I gave him three pointers. Swing only at pitches thrown in the strike zone, and keep your eye on the ball. Use your level, line drive swing that we have practiced all these years. Finish your swing and let your bat come all the way around to touch your back. Minutes later, he was standing on third base with a stand up triple!  As i passed along that wisdom that I learned from my Dad, as a coach I can help guide someone, but they have to do the work and act on the ideas.

Great Grandchildren

Polly was proud of you George. How polite you are, what a handsome boy, what an athlete.

Grandma always said that Lucy is so smart, she is going to become the first woman President!

Nina, Polly loved the way you have grown up talented and proud and played dress up with Lucy when you visited.

Vivienne, she loved your appetite. “Whatchoo eating Nana?” She also loved how strong you were becoming, growing up with two boys and not taking any nonsense from them.

“Oh That Henry, what a great smile he has.” He’s filled with Love.

And to Violet, what a beautiful little girl, cheerful and with such a perfect name !!

Nature's Tapestry

Nature uses only the longest threads to weave her patterns,
so that each small piece of her fabric reveals the organization of the entire tapestry. – Richard P. Feynman
